Is it competition or a separate race entirely?

Take-Two may have said that the GTA 6 release date is still a firm November 19, but that hasn’t stopped fans from looking for further evidence that the 2026 Holidays will mark a return for Rockstar’s gaming gem. And one theory being used involves another big 2026 release.
GTA 6 is officially planned to arrive on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S in November. However, one game that’s a PS5 exclusive is Marvel’s Wolverine. That’s now confirmed for a September 15 release, but what’s the significance? The theory is that Wolverine’s timing confirms GTA 6’s arrival date.
GTA 6 release date ‘link’ to Wolverine
A post by the X account @GTAVI_Countdown states: “PlayStation just confirmed Wolverine will launch 2 whole months before GTA. This is a strong indicator that Sony knows the GTA 6 release date is locked in, as they have a partnership with Rockstar Games and would want to avoid being overshadowed by November’s behemoth release.”
Does any partnership between Sony and Rockstar impact the specific timing of Wolverine’s release? It isn’t clear. But a post about the theory on Reddit has found disagreement, with one user replying: “I think this is a bit of a stretch if I’m honest”.
A further comment adds: “They really don’t know any more than anyone else”. And the most upvoted? “I think the bigger indicator for a release this year is that the green light has been given for the millions for marketing. They won’t waste their money only to delay the game again and pay more millions for a second marketing campaign”.
Publisher money does indeed talk. And anyway, some games may or may not attempt to avoid the giant releases of the year. But what’s ideal for PS5 gamers is an apparent two months for enjoying Wolverine before GTA 6 releases.
