While the iPhone 18 lineup isn’t expected until September, there may already be a hint of a new color for the Pro model. That’s according to a rumor suggesting Apple is working on a new red colorway that can build on the existing iPhone 17 pizzazz.

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman (via Engadget), Apple is testing a ‘Loubooutin Red’ shade. That would well and truly light up the Pro options, and probably be a standout stylistic choice. Of course, the iPhone 17 Pro’s Silver, Cosmic Orange, and Deep Blue include a standout vibrant winner.

A red iPhone Pro?

The current Cosmic Orange 17 Pro choice is a very attractive option in China. As Wccftech reported earlier this month, the color has helped push a 38% surge in sales in the country. That’s reportedly linked to the color matching well with the French luxury brand Hermès.

Naturally, a bright red shade is connected to the French fashion designer Christian Louboutin. So, if Apple were to attempt to catch lightning in a bottle, it could prove the right option for the next-gen iPhone Pro. There are no guarantees, though.

Gurman has stated, “red is the new flagship color in testing for the next iPhone Pros.” He has also noted that purple (interesting) and brown (err) shades are also rumored to be being tested. These may be shades of the reported red option, though.

No red iPhone Fold?

One thing that seems less likely, according to Gurman, is that an upcoming iPhone Fold or Flip won’t get any red shade. Even if the iPhone 18 Pro gets the shade, it seems that Apple prefers less unique color choices for the rumored foldable phone.

That would make sense, given it’s a completely new product with unknown market sentiment. It’s not like Apple hasn’t produced other red devices before (the Apple Watch, various iPhones). However, we may know more about the iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max in the coming months.
