Celebrating 30 years of Pokémon, Nintendo has confirmed the arrival of both the Pokémon FireRed Version and Pokémon LeafGreen Version this month. Yes, Pokémon fans will be able to pick up both, digitally, for the Nintendo Switch, just in time for Pokémon Day.
The arrival of the two titles was confirmed in a post by Nintendo, marking a nostalgic return for two 1996 releases. Originally released as Pokémon Red and Pokémon Green in Japan, both were remade in 2004. And it’s these 2004 Game Boy Advance remakes that are getting a new lease of life in 2026.
Pokémon FireRed Version, Pokémon LeafGreen Version release date
February 27 is the release date for the Pokémon FireRed Version and Pokémon LeafGreen Version. Each will be available on the Nintendo Switch (and Switch 2), allowing you to explore the Kanton region, battle Team Rocket, and meet, or revisit, Brock, Misty, Professor Oak, and Giovanni.
With Kanton a classic Pokémon stomping ground, you’ll be able to seek and find the original 151 Pokémon. Plus, both the Pokémon FireRed Version and Pokémon LeafGreen Version will include abilities, natures, weather conditions, and held items, as they were on the Game Boy Advance.
Pokémon FireRed Version, Pokémon LeafGreen Version pre-orders
You won’t need to wait until the release date to claim the new versions, though. FireRed and LeafGreen pre-orders are available right now, directly from Nintendo. Again, each is only available digitally, and below are the pre-order links for the Switch versions of these Game Boy Advance classics:
- Pokémon FireRed Version – $19.99 – pre-order here
- Pokémon LeafGreen Version – $19.99 – pre-order here
So, if you’re committed to picking them up, you can secure them ahead of Pokémon Day. Plus, given that co-op is a large part of each title for fans, rest assured that you can engage in local co-op using your Nintendo Switch.
But is there anything new in these versions? Yes, upgraded graphics and even the Sevii Islands await, for further exploration and enjoyment. So, adventures aplenty for both Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen Versions, for new fans and those more experienced.
